About The Collective
What is The Collective?
The Collective is an operator-led company based in Woods Cross, Utah. We buy, build, and operate businesses and real estate in Utah and the broader Mountain West. We were founded in 2020 by people who have started, scaled, and sold companies themselves.
Are you a private equity fund?
No. We have no fund timeline and no outside clock forcing an exit. We hold businesses as long as they are performing and we can add value. We are not building toward a flip in three years.
Who runs The Collective?
Three Partners: Micah Green, Morgan Green, and Nick Munsee. They are directly involved in every acquisition, every project, and every company in the portfolio. Meet the team.
What companies do you own?
Current companies include Hales Engineering (traffic engineering and transportation planning), Legacy Property Management (residential property management), and ProvenCFO (CFO and accounting services). See the full portfolio.
Where do you operate?
Utah and the broader Mountain West. Our office is at 2511 Redwood Road, Suite 3, Woods Cross, UT 84087.
Selling your business
What kinds of businesses do you buy?
Profitable businesses with real cash flow, in industries where we have direct operating experience, with an owner ready for what's next and a team worth keeping. We look for businesses that are already working, not turnarounds. Good fundamentals matter more than a specific number.
I'm not sure I'm ready to sell. Should I still reach out?
Yes. We are happy to talk with owners who are early in the process, exploring what options exist and whether a transition makes sense. An early conversation carries no obligation.
Is the conversation confidential?
Yes. Every conversation is confidential. If we move to reviewing financials, we do that under an NDA.
How does the process work?
Five steps: a confidential conversation, a preliminary review of high-level financials under NDA, due diligence, structure and close, then transition and operations. See the full process.
How long does it take to get to a Letter of Intent?
If the preliminary review shows a fit, we usually move to a Letter of Intent within days, not months. Diligence is thorough but not prolonged, and we close when we say we will.
Will you renegotiate the price during due diligence?
No. If we make an offer, we mean it. We do not retrade, and we do not use diligence as a renegotiation tool.
How do you structure deals?
We structure deals that work for both sides. Earnouts, seller notes, and transition arrangements are all on the table.
What happens to my employees after the sale?
We prefer to buy businesses with good people already in place. We invest in those teams. We do not replace them wholesale, and we work alongside the existing team through the transition.
What happens after closing?
We stay in the business as active owners: installing systems, supporting the team, and staying accountable to the outcome. Every company goes through the same framework: clarity, cadence, capital, and traction.
Operators
Do you hire operators to run the businesses you buy?
Sometimes. When we acquire a business, we may bring in an operator to lead it: someone with the right experience who wants ownership alongside compensation and is willing to be accountable to the outcome.
What does an operator role include?
Day-to-day leadership with P&L ownership, an equity stake tied to performance and long-term outcomes, and support from our capital resources and operating partners. Learn about operator roles.
Real estate and capital
What kind of real estate do you develop?
Creative, niche projects in Utah and the Mountain West that others overlook. We decide early on each project whether to hold it for cash flow or recycle the capital into the next build, and we build every project as if we are keeping it.
Who do you partner with on real estate?
Landowners, general contractors, developers, and capital partners who share a long-term outlook. See how we work with partners.
Do you provide financing?
Selectively. We provide gap financing and growth capital to operators and portfolio companies where we can add real operational value.
Have a question that isn't here?
We respond personally, and every conversation is confidential.
